I live in Maine and am cuttently putting together a seti station.
I would very much appreciate knowing the thoughts of people in the area, in anything regarding seti.

I live in Maine as well. What do you mean by "seti station"? Sorry, I'm a newbie to using Seti, however I am very familiar with the concept, having read about it for many years. I just kept forgetting to actually install it on my own computer!

I noticed in your profile that you are from Waterville and that you teach at Colby. I just graduated from Thomas after living there for 4 years. What a small world!!!

I used to live at the apartment complex right across from the college.

Oh so you will have your own radio telescope that you maintain yourself? I guess I wasn't aware that you could do that.

Ahhh, you mean one like this in your own backyard! Some backyard, I might say! Good luck!

Wow, that's seriously hardcore. Would it be more efficient to try to get nad process tapes from other pre-existing stations, or does the "I'm personally looking for SETI" cool factor make up for the extra burden.

That said, would it make sense to make a program to take radio tapes from a variety of backyard stations and basically run the SETI@home analysis software over it? Think about how cool it'd be to have a P2P-type SETI application.

Take my word for it, there is no cool factor. The mailman doesn't talk to me anymore. I think it is more about wanting to do more than just let the computer crunch numbers for someone else. There is little burden, except the learning curve factor, and the initial set up. You turn it on, and record wave files.
And yes I would love to use Seti at home FFT to analyse some of the recordings I've got, As it is, I've got to manually look at each recording at different band widths.
