i have dowloaded the software installed it and it has started with a new unit.

What I want to know is why does the boinc manager say that I have no credit, (from my old seti account I processed over 1200 units) where has all these old units gone?

Classic credits are incompatible with BOINC. They will therefore not be converted. Everybody starts over at zero. As Dave pointed out, the credits appear on your account page.
