I changed my settings so that SETI@home shouldn't run while the computer is in use and should only start once the machine has been idle for 5 minutes but it continues to run all the time. This really slows down my applications. How can I fix this? I am running version 4.45 of BOINC. It does stop running if I go into battery mode (like it's supposed to) which is good. |

You have to connect to the server to let changes apply. usually by manually updating the project. But one question: Why do you want this? Boinc runs on a very low priority, so it won't interfere with your regular tasks, just use the not needed CPU cycles. Gruesse vom Saenger For questions about Boinc look in the BOINC-Wiki |

UnL33T do you have one laptop or two? I suspect your problem is that you have one laptop and you've changed the setting on your original computer. What you need to do if that is the case is merge the two records (the option is at the bottom of the computer pages). After that change the setting again. |

Actually I only have one notebook and it is my only machine with seti on it. Connecting to the network was my problem. Apparently it does not like to work through a router (as I was earlier) but it works fine with a direct dialup connection (what I have at home =( ) |

As the other guy said, you might want to merge the 2, then I would say to set the preferences for work and home. Maybe there is something in the preferences that needs to be different for work location. As for the suggestion of letting it run all the time, I found my pc to quite sluggish when running: programs take a long time to open, intermittent slow mouse and keyboard response, etc. But it's your choice, and you might have better response than mine. |

I have noticed the same behaviour as unL33T, and it actually is a perceptible problem! Even if BOINC runs at low priority, it does hug memory. I run Seti and ClimatePrediction, and the latter in particular slows my machine considerably if left running. As the autodisable function is not reliable (at least not in BOINC 4.25) I have to disable it manually when I want to do other tasks at the computer. This function did, however, work in a previous version, 4.19 I think it was. |

my computer is brand spanking new and it's still choking on normal apps because of this stupid thing running 100% of the time. I'd have a close look at just what is using all the processing time. Atlhon XP2600+, Win98SE & i have Seti running all the time with no effect on other applications. Grant Darwin NT |
