I'm using red hat 9.0 from linuxiso.org. I was wondering how to use this silly linux and so I tried it out. I've seen all the information online at the boinc site but i'm still having a problem with typing commands and telling the client what to do. I have managed to get it running by running it in the terminal but I have no control over it. I've connected and downloaded units but I don't really know how to put in command lines or do anything. I'm running it from the boinc_4.19_i686-pc-linux-gnu file.

Basically my question is how to use the boinc_cmd (or how to extract it somehow? Because I do not see it anywhere) feature so that to control the client.

Boinc 4.19 for Linux is a standalone command-line client and so has no BOINC manager component bundled with it.

BoincView version 0.9.2d runs under Windows and will connect to your Linux client giving you BOINC Manager style control over it.

My guess is you downloaded boinc_4.19_i686-pc-linux-gnu.gz

******** How to unzip the program *********

Open a terminal window.
Create a new directory: mkdir bonic
Move the file to the directory: mv boinc_4.19_i686-pc-linux-gnu.gz bonic/
Then switch to the directory: cd bonic
Unzip the file: gunzip -dv boinc_4.19_i686-pc-linux-gnu.gz
Change the permisions on the new file: chmod 700 boinc_4.19_i686-pc-linux-gnu

The boinc_4.19_i686-pc-linux-gnu has "options" with it.

Type: ./boinc_4.19_i686-pc-linux-gnu /help

This will display the options.

The first time you run BOINC you need to use the command:
./boinc_4.19_i686-pc-linux-gnu -attach_project

This will prompt you for the URL and account key.

Once attached, you can just run it with the command:
./boinc_4.19_i686-pc-linux-gnu

Note: Use Ctrl + C to stop it from runing.

I hope this helps.
