I saw one two years ago outside of Columbia South Carolina..

I have a home near Columbia SC and I was there two years ago. I didn't see it, but then again, I guess I'd have to look up from the monitor, and we know that isn't going to happen.

Wrong! Aurora Borealis can be seen deep down in Europe as well! As south as the middle of Germany (I'm not sure they can see it in Bavaria? rattelschneck, Dudummeskind, anybody???). I've tried to see it here when they have announced solarflares, but I haven't been lucky enough (yet!) as here's too much artificial light!

Fuzzy, I happened to see one once when I was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany (somewhere between 83-91, i forget when). I also remember seeing it one time when my dad was stationed in Omaha.

The Solar Flare activity was rather intense around the August Time frame. You had to far enough away from the lights of the City to see it. I just happened to be on Ft. Jackson at the time..

Nope!! While they are nice to watch the Aurora is spectacular.

They are like the rainbow effect you get when you drop a single drop of oil in to a puddle of water..

a couple years ago, I was taking my big truck from South Carolina to Michigan. I had left late in the afternoon, which meant I'd be driving through the night. That particular night there were supposed to be metior showers. My truck has a CB (citizens band) radio in it. Anyway, I was near Knoxville TN (near Sevierville, and JSHenry) and we truckers were discussing the upcoming event. A new trucker asked "where do we look?". I answered "look UP, if you look down you won't see anything". The rest of the truckers got a big laugh from that one.

It was damn pretty to watch
