And of course, I cannot remotely check up on the computer I just asked > to connect to. I have all my CC installed as single user with a remotehost.cfg file. I've seen the behavior you describe only when the remote PC started it's CC while the "managing" host was down or offline. You can confirm this in the remotes messages tab as there will be a red message at startup saying something to the effect of 'can't locate remote host'. - da shu @ HeliOS, "A child's exposure to technology should never be predicated on an ability to afford it." |

Don't think it does this if the default program for .cfg files is set to notepad. Also instead of using IP addresses you can use hostnames (easier if you use DHCP to auto assign IP addresses). - da shu @ HeliOS, "A child's exposure to technology should never be predicated on an ability to afford it." |

This is by design, according to answers I've seen here before, and a note in one of the bug reports on this issue. Basically, as you've guessed, updating a project is one of the actions that triggers a new schedule. http://bbugs.axpr.net/bug.php?op=show&bugid=27&pos=0 ![]() |

I guess what I'm asking is why we should need to use that kind of workaround when the old Core Client handled the command line switches so much better. It seems that these could be implemented for Manager, and then Manager could pass them to the CLI if need be. ![]() |

Why do we have an option to set time interval, when the app. doesn't take it seriously? ![]() |

Hi All, I'd like to add my winges about 4.25 BOINC Manager :) 1) That hideous pane on the left :( 2) The lack of rclick menus - come on, WxWidgets does support them, I've been using wxwidgets programs since it was WxWindows. 3) Microsith Exploiter being started instead of the system default browser (Mozilla 1.75) :( (I run XP Pro SP2 if that's of any help) 4) Seeing as WxWidgets is cross-platform BOINC Manager will probably get inflicted on everyone :( 5) The lack of rclick menus :( If I was a programmer I'd offer to help sort it out. Any programmers out there willing to lend a hand? PS: I run BOINC as a service - does this have anything to do with the Exploiter issue? Need help? Check out the excellent Unofficial BOINC-Wiki! I uninstalled the 4.19 BOINC client on one of my machines, and installed BOINC Client 4.25 .. It's my Windows ME machine. (happily, my only one on winME.. the rest are windows 2000.. all still on BOINC 4.19 .. and I have one windows XP machine... with a SETI Classic client, sometimes running.) No real problems.. but when it first started up, it didn't show any projects.. I attempted to attach a project, but nothing happened.. like with Windows ME, REBOOTING is that natural solution.. and my existing projects showed up and resumed (presumably) without a hitch. With another strange lockup, I had to reboot again.. (The BOINC client was locked up). sadly the tab column widths on all of the screens had to be resized again. This machine has SETI, Einstein, and LHC running .. (LHC is out of work units, so .. ummm, not running.) Not really anything noticeable going wrong on the project side.. but I can't really say that I like the new BOINC client.. I'll wait a while before upgrading the other machines... // Brian Expanding the edge of Science. ![]() |

Just my .02 cents. 4.25 runs fine but... I liked 4.19 better. I like the right click menu options better but that's just me. Overall it seems fatter without any real reason to be. No real complaints though and the main thing is that it works without a hitch so good job. <img src="http://www.boincstats.com/stats/banner.php?cpid=b3c0c2639ea110901bd0970a1c22efcd"> |

The Graphics issue, seems to me anyway, to invlove the new BOINC software 4.25. I noticed the CPDN and the SETI I run do not function at all, nether does Einstein. Both CPDN and SETI worked fine in 4.19. |

For those people who are trying to get BoincView to see a Linux client, here is how I did it: Since the most recent version of the Boinc Client, version 4.32 does not correctly accept project URLs or account keys at the command line, I first used version 4.19 to set these parameters. % ./boinc_4.19 Enter project URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu Enter KEY: (32 digit key here) Wait a while until it starts crunching. Then kill with CTRL-C. Then because 4.19 doesn't correctly return results to Boincview 1.0.3, we have to use v 4.32: % ./boinc_4.32 -allow_remote_gui_rpc At this point, just make sure that the IP address of your Boincview control computer is in the file remote_hosts.cfg. This allows Boincview to see the boinc client on your Linux computer. |
