My system is windows xp and every time that the screensaver comes up it states that no application is running. How can I run an application on my system so that I can participate? |

Hello and welcome rachel07, You have to attach to a project under 'preferences'. A good manual is here. The rest of the pages are good for looking at most of the times before asking questions here;-) Unfortunately it's not mentioned (yet) here on the official S@H pages, just countless times in the fora. Join one of the projects. Go to http://boinc.berkeley.edu/ where you'll find a list of current projects. You can sign up via the home page and will be given a 32 digit hex number (0-9 and a-f) and a web address. Open Boinc with the show command and go to the Settings menu. Select attach to project. Paste the web adress into Project URL and the 32 digit number in Account ID. The software for the project will then download along with the data. |

I have this same problem. Install Boink and attach to the seti project. Everything runs fine until I reboot. Even though I have made the selections to run boink at boot up, it will not run. Screen saver says that boink is not running. Attempting to start boink by clicking on the boink shortcut "C:\Program Files\BOINC\boinc_gui.exe" fails to start the program. Uninstalling and reinstalling does not solve the problem. Uninstalling and deleting the programs\boink folder, then reinstalling with default settings allows the program to run until the next reboot. Again, it fails to run after reboot. Shortcut to boink is located in the "startup" folder so it should run at boot up. Actually, that is probably not a good method for start programs in winxp. I'll try removing it from the start folder and place it in "run" in the regestry to see if that solves it. Maybe running as a service would be the best method, but I think that the developers are trying to use a simple method of loading for all OSs. Could also be a Norton NIS issue on this end. Regards |

I have been advised to update the program to 4.19. I think we are on our way to success. I shall let you know. |
