Profile: Ivan Basch

Personal background
I am from the Atlanta GA area, an instructor at a local Technical college.

My hobbies are sailing, aviation, history, astronomy and SETI.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I became interested in SETI@HOME at the onset of the project. The concept of
using private computers to enhance basic science and research in ther area of
astronomy is fasinating. There are many implications to the shared computer concept, SETI is one to the first to implement it.

I run SET@HOME in the background on a continious basis. Although my processor is a Pentium II (266) and, with 128mb of RAM, the average time of a work unit is a little less than 24hrs.

My thoughts on extraterrestrial intelligence: Of course..there is too much out there to discount that we are are the only so called intelligent life.

Discover them?... I must admit that I've been somewhat nervous about the
probes the have been sent out with all of our information with them. (Maybe watching too much Star Trek) I would rather that we discover any cililizations
that exist before they end up in orbit around Earth.
