Personal background
I am 47, a home care provider (out of work), play guitar (sort of), am addicted to Anne MacCaffrey's chat room and am a member of the Seti KTL group. Have a cockatiel named Cecilia (a male, long story) and a male Beta japanese fighting fish named Morimoto. Avid watcher of BBCAmerica (Changing Rooms, Ground Force and any Mystery they have). Read Anne MacCaffrey's Pern books before anything else. Loved Star Trek and all it's offspring. Another words I watch waaaaaay too much tv!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I think other life is to be found. May not be ET or anything like what we see in the movies! Considering most of them are invading or get killed immediately by the military, is a poor showing on our part.

Transmitting a beacon??? Yes, I think we should but we shouldn't forget about it once it is started and a lot of thought as to our response to any response we get should be thought about long and hard. (Again referring to the movies, that someone always says "But they were invited!") We should be cautious about any first contact and make sure beyond any doubt that we wouldn't be considered menu items! First information??? Math, I suppose would be the first information we send. Prime numbers, different types of math calculations to prove how far we have come in our knowledge of the subject. That we have oceans teaming with life and the different kinds of terrain to be found on Earth. Well, I suppose that almost any information sent would be pertinent so long as we don't come across as too warlike or too wimpy. We are people, strange to them most likely and that we would like to meet them perhaps on the moon. Since this is our first meeting with otherworlders, we would be shy and cautious about meeting but that we would love to meet with them, exchange any information they might want and be as friendly as circumstances allow. Also what would be the conditions under which they would meet?? Tell them we can't go far or fast just yet, but would like to know of their existance at least for our information.

I remember the Seti Project first starting when I was in junior high. I thought I would like to be there and see what they find out. I thought it was a really good idea and that I would do anything to be a part of it.

Start a new project on the Space Station maybe, would be a good idea. Ask for donations from Seti@home users maybe a $20 bill for instance???
