Profile: Nickster

Personal background
I am the Nickster.

You know, that guy that you looked at strangely in High School. The one that
never really had anything of interest to say and always was right on the verge
of just saying 'the hell with it all' and drifting over to the donut shop to
wait out History 101. Well I'm older now. Doing fine, thanks for checking up
on me. Yes, I still love donuts. Yes, I'd still skip History if I was foolish
enough to have another go. Probably wouldn't fit in those dinky little school
desks now that I think about it. Definitely an apple fritter. Definitely.

I'm a normal guy. Aren't we all? There's nothing fancy about my life, I am no
different than the mass generated twenty-somethings that wander the streets at
night, craving nothing more than attention and inexpensive petrol. My needs are
few, my wants are many. My desire to experience 'it all' encompasses my every
thought of action but the odds are I'll never get out of this damned office
chair..

Obviously, I still don't have anything interesting to say.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why run Seti?

It's all about the similarities.

Do aliens have to climb out of their warm, fuzzy beds every morning only to sit
in a cubicle for eight to ten hours a day? So they can have the joy of going to
Carl's Junior for lunch and marveling over the $.99 Famous Star? What does an
alien's version of a Dr. Who rerun look like? Do they relish Lords of Acid
because it vaguely reminds them of the early days, the days before the shoulder
high office walls filled their ever waking existence? Is the neatest thing
they've seen in months an office that has not one but TWO percolators, one for
herbal and one for decaf? What if there's actually a civilization in the
universe that isn't owned by corporate giants or opinion polls? If such a thing
exists then how in the heavens did they do it? What's their secret? Does
everyone get died green at birth and have all of their teeth pulled so there's
no discrimination?

Damn it, I want to know! Thus I've taken it upon myself to help find out the
truth. Every computer I'm able to afford on my cubicle salary has been devoted
to that effort. Every dollar I save by eating those nasty, cheap-assed
hamburgers at lunch is rapidly funneled into extra memory and bigger processors
so that those questions will haunt my dreams no longer. Perhaps we as humans
will be taught the secret to living long and fulfilling lives without ever
having to face those dreadful predawn mornings. Mornings where a time clock is
our only reward. Seti@Home MUST SET US FREE!!

Nah, I just run the proggie because it's a cool looking screen saver.
Everyone knows chicks dig cool screen savers.
