Personal background
Interested in science, nature and technics, I finished my study of
Ocenanography in Kiel, Germany. Astronomy, Mathematics, Physics and Electronics
are my favorite disciplines. Nowadays I am working as hard-/software engineer.
My hobbies include computers, Badminton and the famous space stories of
Perry Rhodan.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
SETI became known to myself in the summer of 1999, where I joined with great
enthusiasm. I was able to use several computers at my institute overnight.
So I was able to compute about 1-3 units per day, although having an average
CPU time of ~30 hours.
I am definetly sure, that there is life on other planets, asteroids or elsewhere,
since the sheer amount of potential star systems is overwhelming.
So, everybody keep on hunting, support SETI !
I think it is hard to find extraterrestial life, due to the great distances
to even the nearest potential locations. Furthermore, such intelligencies
must have a special interest to be found by others, and send a significant
message. So I do not expect a success of SETI within the next 50 years.

Yes, terranians should send a distintive signal into space, even if there could
be a danger of threat from those species. But terranians have to face the challenge,
which results from the fact of an evolutional development, where man has to
leave earth some day, to survive.

What about developing househould equipment (Toasters, microwaves) with
computational power and internet connection, which are equipped with SETI
software by default :) ?
