Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Became interested in the SETI@home project a year or two ago, have been computing work units since. At once point I had stealthly harnessed the power of 20 or so computers at my old college, and got about 300 hours of work completed before I was discovered. :)
I do believe in ET life, anyone who thinks that the notion is pure fantasy probably doesn't have a clue as to how vast the universe really is. Furthermore, humans tend to be arrogant: We seem to think that we know it all. I personally feel that we're more likely than not considered primitive, on a universal scale.
SETI@home is a great way to make use of idle processors. Although I feel that in order to make a real impact, the SETI team will have to find a way to scan more area of the sky, as it only scans a fraction of it currently.
One last note: I highly advocate the use of the commandline program for you PC users, it's at least 3 times faster. |
