Personal background
I graduated from college in 2010 with a BA in Environmental Studies and am slowly getting myself ready to pursue environmental anthropology in graduate school. Though I'm currently unemployed, I am by no means idle. I spend a lot of time with my dog, Merlyn, working on improving some of his previous training as well as learning how to take life with more patience and peace of mind. I write speculative fiction, though I'm also anxious to explore a more journalistic approach to writing about environmental and anthropological issues that I feel the general public needs to be aware of. In addition, I'm something of an amateur digital photographer and aspiring documentary film-maker. I love taking long walks into nature, getting away from civilization and reconnecting with my primal self that tends to go a little stir crazy living in the midst of the suburbs.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am hardly technologically inclined, though I do find the search for extraterrestrial intelligence to be extremely fascinating. Maybe it's because I'm a big fan of science fiction books and movies, or maybe it's because I'm a social primate with a desire to reach out to other beings in other parts of the galaxy. I wanted to get involved with SETI@home because I'd be honored to be a part of the grand search for life elsewhere in the universe, whether or not we ever find anything. I like being a part of a team of like-minded individuals with similar passions and curiosity to my own. I definitely also like being reminded of the good things that exist in the core of the human spirit, things such as hope for the future and the journey to expand our collective consciousness. It's a great idea to share the load of the investigation with as many interested people on the planet in order to improve our species' chances of discovery. After all, if one person finds something, it'll be something that will affect us all, for better or for worse, so it's only reasonable that we should all be responsible for searching the skies together.
