Personal background
I work for IBM supporting server technicians. In my spare time I help my friend run a few of his sites, Mo-Betta, I'd Hit It, and Survival Guide: The Game.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There are two sides to every story, extraterrestrial life included, and I'm on the fence. Yes, there are a billion billion galaxies and all that jazz, so it seems likely, but it also seems likely that the extended series of evolutionary accidents and concidences that led to our creation is unique.

Beacon? By the time anyone responds to our beacon, humanity may be extinct, but we might as well try. I think the beacon should include examples from the arts and sciences, like the Galileo records on the Voyagers.

I run SETI@home because I like the idea of helping to solve one of humanity's biggest questions, to discover one of its deepest fears and greatest hopes.

Okay, okay, and I'm an ultra-competitive stats-junkie who loves speed-tweaking his computer array for maximum workunit output. There, I said it.
"Hi, my name is Richard, and I'm a SETIholic ..."
