Personal background
I look out at the sky at night.

Cannot help but wonder if anyone is looking back.

Maybe they tossed a bottle in the ocean.

Maybe we'll be lucky to find it.

As far as I know,

There is no one with in 25 light years,

That wants to talk with us.

Though I doubt we are alone,

It takes a lot of not finding,

To say we are.

But only once,

To say we aren't.

Other than that I am a 46 yo engineer, who to this day remains amazed about the world around us
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
#1 It would be a shame if et life didn't exist. More than likely we will trip over it when we find it. The benefits: we survive. The dangers: we don't.

#2 We already are sending a beacon. You don't think that FM broadcasts haven't gone a far ways? I wonder how far out from our planet that we could detect our own known radio emissions? What about X and Gamma Ray emissions from above ground thermonuclear explosions, err, tests? What information should we send? How about: "Hi there, please don't eat us."

#3 I run seti@home because right now it is about the only way I have to contribute to a possible solution to a very fundamental question. Running the software and analyzing the data packets demonstrates that I think the project is worthwhile. Suggestions: don't stop.
