Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extraterrestrial life is almost guaranteed to exist because there are so many other planets, galaxies and stars that could support life; we just haven’t been able to find them yet. Humans will most likely discover people from other beings in about fifty years but I don’t think people will widely accept their existence for at least another twenty years. There are many benefits associated with the discovery such as technology trade and materials trade but then there are the dangers. A rogue being with superior technology could theoretically overthrow and enslave the human race so we need to be careful in that aspect. Humans should transmit a beacon for others to receive but it would probably be ill-fated because if there is intelligent life it wouldn’t be received by them for years and even hundreds of years because of the limitations of our technology. Some information that we could send would be our prime numbers and information about our sun and its location relative to the center of our galaxy.
