Profile: HeresHoping

Personal background
I was in the Navy, used satellites to gather intelligence. Got into computers in 1970 and have worked in the following fields; programming, systems analysis, systems programming, operations management, NT, Novell, LAN, WAN, and Cisco routing. I am currently learning the IBM AS/400. I hope to retire within the next five years and go back to school to learn all the "new" programming languages, just haven't had time what with raising two wonderful children (on my own) and work.

I have recently joined a philanthropic organization and will probably become a "clown" and perform for children. I love kids.

I'm 52, single, and love to travel, play golf, bike, camp, and fish.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I certainly hope so. Perhaps they will find us before we find them. Benefits and dangers; I say, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

2. Yes, we should let them know they are not alone and issue a greeting. I would not include anything else other than a general "Hi, what's up? We don't bite".

3. I discovered SETI@home when I was working on a teacher’s computer, installing her email client, and decided to form my own group of administrators just to give the kids something to compete with. I'm very surprised how many users world wide there are, and think it's just fantastic. I have no suggestions; keep up the good work!
