Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I would be very surprised if there is not life somewhere out there. The Universe is too large for the conditions needed to develop life to have only occurred on this one planet.
How and when we will discover it remains a mystery.
I run SETI@home to be a part of the biggest distributed research project that I know of. Currently I am running on Pentium 4 1.5GHz PCs at both home and at work. I think that with our present technology the chances are slim for us to find much, since the source would have to be relatively close, extremely powerful, or aimed directly at us.
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
