Personal background
I live in VA. I am a Network Engineer. Around 50 years old.
Mostly I do DC for medical research, I do SETI just for the fact that it is a neat idea. I don't think we will ever find anything. The reason I say that is if you use the pattern of human existence and growth as an example then each civilization in the universe only has about 200 years that it will be able to transmit some kind of signal that we could find. Now it would be the wildest stroke of luck if that signal happen to be passing by in our 200 year window when we were listening.

You see you only have the 200 years because any civilization that is curious and creative like us will use all there natural resources, pollute there environment to the point they starve, get wiped out by a disease, hit by a asteroid, or destroy themselves with nuclear weapons.

So you see, it is fun to look but given the amount of time that any race or species with the mind to create can last, the chances of them hearing one another via radio is slim and none.
BTW...slim left some time ago.
