Profile: Paul Pongratz

Personal background
My name of course is Paul Pongratz, I am from Tulsa, Oklahoma. My family is originally from Germany. I am aged 32.
Occupation; Owner and Senior Engineer of Occam Electrical Engineering and Design. Our company designs and builds industrial process controls. Remote ( satellite, radio modem and wired ) operator interfaces and processes associated with automation and safety. We have done work for many large international corporations from the oil field to telecommunications. We also work with environmental consevation and improvement issues with the Environmental Protection Agency and many companies associated with this agency. We were interested in SETI at home for a few reasons.
1. We do not use our computers all night, so this frees them for something, what this would be, we wondered for a long time, then we found SETI!
2. We consider the search for intelligence beyond our planet and solar system to be a worthy cause.
3. Realising that even if there is no discovery of the aforementioned ( as seen in # 2) we still feel as though some valuable information could be garnered about galactic radio signatures and radiation patterns.
4. It is just a personal fascination of mine, crazy or not, I stand by it.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does extraterrestrial life exist? It would be selfish to think that we are the only ones in the entire universe living and gifted enough to even ponder the question! How will we discover this? Has this already happened in some other galaxy thousands of years ago by some other type of being? Are we just a group of living entities in a series, spread across the galaxies, divided by tremendous time spans? Have we missed each other's communications? That is why I think it is important to try to look for such things! I can see no danger in this effort, but then I am not in the government and I live peacefully and do not desire to kill, disect or destroy something just because I do not understand it. I do not represent the majority. If there is a danger in our contact with other intelligence, either side may be the one in danger. Unknown agendas are the crux of this statement.
I beleive we should transmit a beacon, the information it contains should tell basic information about us. What we have learned to harness the power of, ways in which we communicate and how little we actually know about ourselves. This is the irony. We know very little about our own brains and bodies and discover something new in science every day. I doubt that anyone other than our creator TRULY understands these inner workings. I have some doubts in science. Some things are better left alone. (E.G.; Genetic engineering)
