| I'm running Seti@home in the background on a laptop with a permanent cable connection. I live in SouthEastern Wisconsin. Carl Sagan is one of my heroes. I'm a thirty year old wife and mom. In May, I quit my job as an office manager and so I'm now working from home. I build websites for fun and profit. My husband is a code cruncher for a software development company. His latest project is a windows CE program that analyzes automobile emissions for the DOT, among various consulting endeavors. In my spare time, I stargaze, read books, watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer (ha), old Star Trek episodes and buy DVDs. I adore Kevin Smith, Kevin Lynch, William Shatner.....sheesh. | Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

I definitely believe that life on other planets is possible. I'm pretty sure programs like Seti will be responsible for discovering it, since our government has lost all interest in space exploration. I feel that fear of the unknown is the only thing we have to fear. The benefits of such a discovery are too numerous to speculate. I think it's possible that there are many many planets with life in many many different stages of development across the universe. So, following that, it's possible we will find, eventually, life that is more advanced than us.
If we can, I think to further our own understanding of ourselves, we must reach out. It's the only way people will truly know that religion is a manmade construct, a crutch more than a comforter. If we send a beacon, it should probably be a video message, if that's possible. It should be short and sweet and to the point. "hello, I am a human being from this planet, nice to meet you. Would you like to hook up and talk about the universe?"
I run Seti@home because I believe in the program and it's a something I can do to support it. I believe that Carl Sagan was a great man, a wise man and a truthful man and he believed in it, too.
