Personal background
I'm 57 and live in Modesto, CA. I enjoy reading and watching TV programs about space. I really enjoyed the book Contact, by Carl Sagan, and the movie that followed. We also have the complete set of Cosmos by Carl Sagan.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that extraterrestrial life must exist. I find it hard to believe that we could be the only life out there. I think that projects like SETI and space exploration, when we are capable of it, are how we will discover other life. To me one of the main benefits would be just knowing we're not alone. One of the dangers might be that we could accidentally harm or be harmed by such a discovery.

I think we should transmit a beacon. I'm not sure what we should send. I guess something that shows our degree of intelligence, where we are located, and a little information about our type of life.

I think it would be wonderful to be a part of something that finds evidence that extraterrestrial life exists. This is the second time I've signed up to participate in SETI@home. The first time was (under another email address) from June 2, 1999 to Sept. 19, 2000. It think the project is a good idea, but I don't really have any suggestions.
