Personal background
Hi I am 40 and live in the United Kingdom. I am a Technologist and Network Architect by profession and normally work in the Telecommunications industry, though for that last few years I have been working for the local government as their Strategist working on a variety of large public technology projects
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Was in at the start of this whole technology, so its a dear to my heart. I was one of the Architects behind a commercial system that was called WAM!NET. WAM!NET had a massive network of distributed SG 02's on the end of high speed WAN links (Well high speed in those days) process bits of work when they were idle that when completed and sent back made a complete job. In those days we used it for graphics processing particularly rendering for the animation and film industry. Gladiator was our first big successful use of the technology.

Been helping SETI for years now, pleased that the BOINC project has finally reached a deployable goal, it was a shame that the concept of using distributed processing ended up as a competition between projects to get machines rather than a collaboration, now I can support more than one.

My only gripe now is that not all projects support the Apple platforms of either the Power PC or Intel Version, us Apple users / converts are growing in numbers seems such a shame to exclude a significant population from assisting on a number of very worthwhile projects.

Anyway enough of my rant, well done team(s) and keep up the great work
