Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
My first use of SETI@home was with the classic version back in the late '90's. My user name back then was "kc6ooe" - my ham radio callsign. Today I am back as "TMA-3", (Tycho Magnetic Anamoly 3), an art installation I created for Burning Man 2009. The resurgence of my insatiable desire to look toward the heavens was a response to the realization that I may have been carrying a "code" of sorts in my mind since the age of 7. It is a curiosity more than anything and I probably attach more significance to it than it is worth, but, like the elusive signal that SETI has spent decades searching for, if it is important, I wanted to make the effort to bring it to light.

TMA-3 is that effort. And, as many of the SETI enthusiasts hopefully share that dream we carry with us throughout our life of discovering someone (or something) else beyond the heavens, SETI@home gives us the opportunity to not only share in the magic of it's search for extraterrestrial intelligence, it allows us to contribute in a significant way by processing the mountains of data that must be sifted through.

I want to thank the geeks at Berkeley that got this project started many years ago as well as the dedicated scientist and members at SETI for never giving up the search.
