Personal background
Programmer and application developer specializing in vertical applications for the real estate industry. I love science and astronomy and would like to prove "we are not alone" even though we all know we aren't with the sheer magnitude of possible inhabitable worlds just in our immediate galaxy.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home for the same reason I think most people do...to use excess processing power on computers to help find ET in their spare time when they aren't doing something else. I would love to have one of my machines be the one to definitively prove the existence of extraterrestrial life!

I think the project is vital to the scientific community and very glad it has been allowed to continue. It is innovative and can only become more effective as computer processing power gets stronger. I see a migration (as in my own company) for moving seti@home to a cloud computing environment. I currently have two virtual servers running the Bonic Manager.

My only suggestion might be to port the algorithms and processes used for seti@home to something that would be more efficient for the AWS environment, perhaps a web application that could be run by itself that people could utilize and eliminate the fantastic amount of overhead of running a simulated PC under EC2, WorkSpace or other AWS machine.
