Personal background
I am a 49-year-old self-employed painting contractor. Science, woodworking and bow hunting are my favorite hobbies. I have a four-year college background in engineering, but preferred being self employed working with my hands. I do custom hi end residential paintwork. I am a single parent with two teenage children.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think, without a doubt, extraterrestrial life exists. I still hold out the possibility of extraterrestrial life in this solar system. Not intelligent life or even higher order life forms, but single celled or microbial life could still exist in several places within our solar system. Given the size, breadth, and volume of observable space, I think it’s impossible to not believe that some other extraterrestrial life forms do exist.

Intelligent extraterrestrial life? Why not? Space is so huge and the possibilities so enormous, statistically speaking, that I cant believe that there is no other intelligent life in the universe. The question is how advanced technologically they are. If they are highly advanced, why would they want to contact us? We don’t even get along with each other very well. What could this small planet offer them? What can we offer them? Not much I think.
If and when contact with, or evidence of, intelligent life is discovered, I don’t think it will change human kind significantly. Not in my life time anyway. More than likely, in my life time, no such discovery or contact will be made. If evidence of extraterrestrial intelligent life is discovered, I think it will come as a random signal from space, to far away for us to make any real contact.
SETI has the right idea. We have to look. I believe a signal is there, we just have to find it
Who knows, given a few hundred or thousand years, we may be “the little brown or pink men” landing on a planet far, far away.
