Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes, I think extraterrestrial life exists. Benefits I think, would be a chance of moving forward from our present ignorant and self-righteous state. Unfortunately, we are probably to ignorant to accept the chance. The dangers? Well, probably quite a lot for whoever we meet.

2. I don't think a beacon will do much good, I think we have been found.

3. I run SETI@home for pleasure, and possible excitement. Unfortunately I really don't know my way around it yet as I only downloaded it today, November 18th 2001 and am only finding my way very slowly. My views? well if I may quote from someone else - my appologies if another has made the same quote - it sums up my views on anything perfectly -

"There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep man in everlasting ignorance - that principle is contempt prior to investigation."

Herbert Spencer.
