Personal background |
Mid 40's Aussie, studied astronomy at two universities. This is my second SETI account- the first was the original S@H 'classic' version, run upon my trusty 'old' computer, nearabouts when S@H first commenced. Have had a bit of a hiatus between accounts, due to having previously been in a rural area with intermittent net access. My profile picture is of some flowers that my son gave to me :)
Hobbies: Making crop circles and scaring the neighbours ;) |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Running S@H again to find ET ;) Also to see if there really IS truly intelligent/sentient life anywhere ;)
As a race, we have a long way to go with our physical perception of the universe (ie, recent revisions of the MW galaxy, dark matter and therefore dark energy), plus... we also have a huge way to go with our treatment of fellow humans and other species.
To borrow the title of the book by Frank Drake and Dava Sobel: 'Is anyone out there?' Definitely (go see the Drake Equation sometime). Are they aware of us? Probably.
However, what motivation would there be for them to contact us? I think that they may just be out there, bemused by how our 'leaders' think of bigger and better ways to annihilate each other - if you were an extraterrestrial, would you contact a species such as ours?
Then again, there are the positives to our planet- the mere existence of life itself, and the truly benevolent among us. Thanx for reading - Live Long and Prosper :) |
