Personal background |
42 years of age, originally hailing from Newport, Rhode Island, I have rooted myself in Portland, Oregon, a perfect home base for frequent wilderness excursions. I never became a scientist because I could never specialize, but I still follow many fields including archaeology, paleontology, astronomy, entomology, geology, and environmental biology. I draw and paint in watercolor, my favorite subjects being insects, spiders, and botanicals. With my partner Stacy Pierce, I practice a sustainable urban lifestyle which includes organic gardening, home power generation, runoff management, recycling, composting, and supporting the local and regional economy.
I am currently employed in organic produce, working for a small, locally-owned company. Previous to this I was an editor for Dark Horse Comics where I produced numerous comic and graphic novel titles including Star Wars, Tarzan, Ghost in the Shell, Predator, and The Ring of the Nibelungen.
I love good coffee, good beer, good food both fast and slow, reading anything, |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I run SETI@home because I believe that certain knowledge of life elsewhere in the universe will ultimately be a tremendously unifying experience for our species and the positive first step toward a greater understanding of our role as the eyes and ears of the universe. Additionally, I am fascinated by the growing efforts of massively public processing and I'm excited to see it being applied to so many different projects. SETI, however, will always remain closest to my heart. |
