Profile: Chron3

Personal background
I'm currently located in Northern Virginia. I work developing software for Educational Institutions, and have previously done so for the finance industry, and the energy/utility industry.

Hobbies? Wargaming and History, specifically World War II military history, and of course, the obligatory computer games. Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord / Barbarossa to Berlin / Afrika Korps is the #1 tactical level wargame for the computer, available for both PC and Mac.

And for other fun, I have been bitten by the Everquest bug.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does extraterrestial life exist? Of course, to think otherwise is the ultimate display of arrogance. It does not need to match our self-describing notion of carbon-based bipedal humanoid. It may indeed seem, to us at least, creepy spidery things, or even intelligently evolved dinosaurs whose ancestors were not obliterated by some ancient cataclysm.

The benefits of the search are enormous, in current timeframes, as we continue to stretch technology in the attempt to venture into the stars. Derivatives of technological advancements from the "space race" still affect our daily lives in ways many people take for granted.

The SETI@home project is a good use for all the extra cycles available in my home computer when I am at work, and my work computer when I am at home.
