Personal background
I live in the Chicago suburbs and own an antique clock shop, now in my 10th year of operation. I started this business after many years of international field service work as a trouble shooter for PLC controlled printing equipment.

Ages ago after just turning 40, my health had a major system crash and required me to live a more leisure lifestyle. Antique clocks had been my hobby for 20 odd years and the clock shop was a natural evolutionary path to pursue, my body still needed food and shelter.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I've been using seti@home for over 4 years now. I can't remember how I came accross the program but I'm sure Carl Sagan was involved.

In my business we use a voicemail answering system so my computer is running 24/7. I thought "Why not do something useful with the energy being wasted 16 hours a day".

I truly believe if we discover intelligent life out there, it will bring the people of our tiny planet together as an entire single race. What more could one ask for?

We pollute our planet with poisons and we pollute our skys with brodcasts. If there is intelligent life out there; THEY KNOW WE'RE HERE! (I just hope we haven't frightened them away).
