Personal background
I'm from Bradenton, Florida, a retired automotive Mechanic. I like to fish at night and while away from the city lights the stars are bright and compelling. I sometimes wonder what someone on a distant plant might be doing for their enjoyment, as I like to fish, it would be interesting to here their fishing stories.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe that life exists somewhere other then our own world, and the thought of an intelligent life form with the capability of space travel is a very good possibility. I also believe that if they took the time to travel to our world they more then likely be friendly, as they would probably have traveled hundreds of years having generations of their people born, trained and carrying on the mission of there ancestors to reach our world. The pearls of such a journey would make their goal friendly, and the uncertainty of this world also make them cautious of hostile encounter.
If such an encounter came to be, the exchange of technology could be great, but also there is a chance that we may not exchange technology at all, if they are far more advanced then we are, such an exchange could be very harmful if the knowledge to use it wisely is under developed.
I believe a beacon should be used, it may increase the chance of contact being made. As language will be a problem, it should be common to both, such as, Mathematical as in prime numbers, our known elements, chemical and mineral, and a breakdown of basic English to try to get a limited communication established.
I run the SETI@home to contribute as much time as I can. It is a worth while program that I believe is under funded and should receive Federal Funding. The unknown is the last great frontier to be explored, and the universe is a massive unknown.
