Personal background
Hi there, I'm a single 58 year old man living in Leeds UK. I work at the University of Leeds where I maintain the programmes and modules on the web. I'm an organist in my spare time and play for lots of weddings and funerals. Held several full time posts as organist and choirmaster but now only do it to help out. Don't like being tied down too much at the weekend :-(
Love travelling and seeing the world and get away as often as I can. Like eating out and I love trying out new pubs and restaurants - visited so many I really ought to write a book about them. Maybe I will when I retire :-)
I've run SETI on my computer at home and at work on and off over several years but today (7th August 2007) was watching a programme on TV that reminded me that I've not helped for some time so thought it would be good to hook up again. I agree with the idea that we can't be alone and everyone should help to find other intelligent life. It would be so exciting to find something out there as I'm sure we shall eventually.
Feel free to say hi if you want and happy hunting to all of you :-)
Cheers
Geoff
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) I think it's a worthwhile project and I was prompted to re-join after a few years absence whilst watching a programme on UK TV this evening
2) It's exciting and the odds are that we shall eventually find and communicate with other life-forms somewhere out there:-) The more people that offer a little computing power the quicker we shall find something interesting so I hope lots more people join in and help!!
3) Don't know anything like enough about this to suggest anything but I'll keep thinking ;-)
