Profile: Michael Simpson

Personal background
Hi, my name is Michael Simpson. As of April 15, 2007 - I am a 38 year-old, Biology and Anthropology, 3rd-Year student at Augusta State University, In Augusta, Georgia. Additionally, I am a environmental research analyst and consider myself a secular humanist and a naturalist. Some recent projects include a Global Warming presentation on campus for Students, Faculty and the community, as part of 'StepItUp 2007,' a national campaign providing Global Warming awareness to everyone we can. Yesterday's presentation was part of the National Day of Climate Action, a declaration establishing a day of action, to be held annually on April 14. My hobbies are limited right now, due to academic responsibilities. However, when I do have time, I enjoy all kinds of activities, mostly those that include nature and the environment. I would love to be taking samples of vocanic activity. I would also love to fly over terrain, evaluating deforestation and industrial pollution activity.

As a secular humanist, I look for science and reason in everything. I am open-minded, but always look for emperical evidence to substantiate claims. Well that's enouph for right now. Thank you

Michael Simpson
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Why do you run SET@home?

I believe in life outside our planet. I have known about SETI@home for several years, but only recently renewed my interest in your project.

2. What are your views about the project?

I think SETI@home is a great and noble project, but no matter how large or small an organization is, funding is always a concern. From the limited knowledge I have about your project, I believe your project requires the use of super computers to crunch the data streaming from your dishes. Space is so vast, that if all your dishes a pointing at one location in space, that one direction could encompass billions or trillions of cubic' miles and relative light years. The idea of farming out data crunching to the interested public, extended your ability to do this searching exponentionally.

3. Any suggestions?

Do a college campus outreach campaign. Thousands of PC's are just sitting there doing nothing.
