I'm 44 and I've worked for AT+T since 1985. I became a bit of a computer geek in 1996 when I discovered the internet. I met my husband via the internet nearly 10 years ago. I came across the SETI project just this week while reading an article about the guy who was able to track down his wife's stolen laptop because the machine was pinging the server. I thought it was pretty cool and I've heard about these volunteer projects where thousands of computers are used for scientific purposes while idle. So here I am !
I suspect most of the user's here are male. That's a plus! I also suspect most of you are science, math and tech geeks so I hope to be a unique member of the team. I have 4 cats and 4 dogs and much of my internet time is spent playing games on Pogo. You'll find me there as Sparkle_Rose. However, in the summer you'll find me outside in the pool !!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think I'm running SETI@home because I'm curious. Who's to say we are the only beings in this vast universe ? I can't really say I have a "view" on the project yet. I suppose it's harmless enough.
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
