Profile: Alan Yarusevich II

Personal background
I am a typical IT junkie who has a background very heavy in Unix, Networking, Security, Disk Storage Systems, Backup and Disaster Recovery. I get into everything and I am very happy to use a little power and CPU cycles to allow SETI to hopefully one day find intelligent life off the planet Earth.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why do you run SETI@home?
I like millions of others dream that one day we will be able to contact a peaceful race or at least detect the presence of another. I recognize the fact that minimal funding keeps SETI from being able to process all the incoming data... I am glad to assist.

What are your views about the project?
With the vast space between Earth and other bodies that can sustain intelligent life, there are hundreads / millions of years distance for radio communications to travel. We should hopefully be able to detect communications from civilizations that could have started thousands of years before humans. Hopefully they are peaceful and were attempting the same communications we are. We should look for these civilizations and try to reach out to them if possible.

Any suggestions?
