Profile: Eliminator

Personal background
I was born and raised in San Diego, Ca circa 1972. I graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Earth Sciences. I did work at the Institute of GeoPhysics and Planetary Physics (IGPP) at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) in La Jolla,Ca. My work included processing data that had been recorded by seismographic stations from all over the world.

I enjoy setting up my 12" Meade LX200 SCT and scanning the night sky taking astrophotography pictures. I'm also a proud member of the Overclockers.com Seti team in which six of my computers are dedicated to.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I run Seti because I've always been fascinated with Astronomy. I heard about the project on TV and been hooked ever since. I've been running Seti@home since June 4, 1999. I ran the old screensaver version for several months on an old PII 300MHz. If I remember correctly, it took about 360 hrs to process 1 WU on that computer. Over the years I upgraded and added computers. I have 7,279 WU and 37,721 hrs of Classic running time, using the CLC version for most of the work. I've lost my account info, so I can't merge my overall WU's.

2. I think the project is at least worth a try. Earth is about 4.6 billion years old. Microbial life thrived on this planet when it was only 500 million years old. That means, when Earth finally cooled, released it gases, clouds formed, then the heavens opened up, there has been some sort of life. If you could make the Geologic timescale the length of the Empire State Building, humans have only been around as long as the thickness of a postage stamp. If life can happen here, it can happen almost anywhere. We orbit an average sized star, in an average sized galaxy. As Carl Sagan would say, there are Billions and Billions of stars, galaxy's, and possibilities. It's to overwhelming to ignore.

3. I suggest they bring back the old style screensaver version. I would stare at that thing for hours.
