I'm a 40 year old Electro-Mechanical Designer/Draftsman of 18 years that grew up watching "COSMOS" on PBS. Carl Sagan is/has been one of my all time heroes since I was a child.

I suggest a Project-to-CPU/Motherboard/Memory Configuration-Table in the instructions in order to stop the Boinc Client from locking up your Computer when it's Idle. Defaulting to using 100% of the CPU and 100% of the CPU time isn't going to get you many results. I've been tweaking the settings for BOINC online, and setting them the same in the Client... but it still hangs my PC when I run the Screen Saver for more than a day... Sometimes within 30 Minutes of running.
I guess what I'm saying is... ya need an easier to understand Control Interface for the BOINC Client.
It would make it more intuitive and also much easier for the average idiot who wants to help, but isn't computer-savvy enough to figure out the Computer Science thay is required to successfully:
1.) Run the BOINC Client
2.) Configure it so that it can talk to the servers you want for the app you want..
3.) Actually download work units to begin working on..
4.) Stop it from crashing windows when it runs other applications at the same time for long periods of time.
If you've read this far... I applaud your grit, and I would quickly suggest that you guys find a really good group of Software Engineers to tie in the Preferences that must be currently altered on the website into a graphics-oriented Software Client... (SETi@home.exe for instance...) and make it a one stop shop for your scientific catalog of potentially Earth-Changing, and certainly Mankind-benefitting applications.
There, that's my $0.02.
If ya put a bit more in, you'll get a lot more out.
