Personal background
36 year old male who has lived in NW Georgia for 2 1/2 years, NE Georgia for 6 months and NW Florida for a total of 17 years .... have loved science and sci-fi since I was a little kid, still enjoy curling up with a good sci-fi or fantasy book and mentally sending myself into a world where we are not alone and are working with other races and species to know all there is to know.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I agree with many science fact and sci-fi authors in that its a supreme feat of arrogance for the Human race to assume that because we have not encountered anyone from beyond our own little "yard" that we are alone in the universe. There are billions upon billions of stars in the universe .... how many other sentient races could there be out there somewhere saying the same thing we are ... "We must be alone, no ones been in contact with us." If you take Carl Sagan's theory and put it to the test, or even any of the other classical sci-fi writers, then the number of stars that may or do have planets that can/did/may support life is such a high number that the human mind cannot comprehend it, but at the same time, is only a single digit percentage of stars in the galaxy, or even in the universe as a whole.
