Personal background
I'm a Klingonist from Klingon Valley (roughly phonetical translation attempt from German *g*) and study at "Leipzig University" (f.k.a. "Karl Marx University at Leipzig"). There I do English and American Studies as well as Linguistics and I am somewhat keen on SF, which is a well-established branch of academia at our Institute for American Studies (I recently noticed the focus currently seems to be on Afro-American Female SF writers...).

When I'm not running SETI@home, I'm probably offline - anything else may stay a secret here... ;-)

*gasp*

Well, actually - the Klingon vein pretty much makes me what I am. And the writing stuff. And the coaching stuff (i.e., I coach people)...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
You know it already and you heard it all before: If that huge a place like our Universe, considering

it would be the damndest, biggest waste of space EVER, if we're the only ones running SETI@home (or alien equivalent) while watching videos of copulation online (or alien equivalent).
*l*

Even IF there would never a signal to be found by this very program, the data derived from the process could be useful later on for things we might not even be able to figure out right now. I favor the usage and property rights of these data not only be nationalized (that would be bad for non-US Earthlings...), but inter-nationalized and free for all (better).

If mankind ventures deeper into space, I deem it important to leave some bad habits back at home, like (exclusive) private property and thriving for profiteering as the main engine behind motivation in general. When we venture into space, then it must happen with a new sense of egalitarianism, far beyond what the American Declaration of Independence advised: This time women and non-WASPers have to be included without any limitation, neither practical nor on paper (harddisk).

My suggestion would be, not only to look for extension of this program in terms of quantity but also in terms of quality:
- What might be secondary modes of using the Arecibo et.al. data, beyond what we are trying to do right now?
- Which options have not been sufficiently considered yet, while they are technically feasible already?
- etc. pp.

If SETI@home does not lead to a globally recognized, undeniable first contact of acknowledgable impact, there has to be kind of a "Plan B" to make use of the (in cumulation) gigantic efforts people all around the world contributed to this feat. The fact that I still run SETI@home shall serve to account for my confidence in the world community to undertake drafting such "Plans B" already by now. As far as I am concerned, I'm ready to contribute ideas immediately, if in an adequate context...
