Personal background
Heya, My name's Ben, I'm from Newcastle, Australia, and have been crunching for SETI since 1999. I'm a Honours-year student at University Of Newcastle, studying Mathematics, having finished degrees in Maths and Biology, and am interested in all the Sciencey stuff that other (normal) people find quite icky. And stat-gains too, of course :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I would like to believe that there is life out there somewhere. The statistics are definately for it. Unfortunately, biped lifeforms who speak 'Basic' are pretty doubtful. Life can evolve in all sorts of ways, and its entirely possible that there's some civilisation out there who is a million years will be sitting by *their* computers, crunching WUs and noticing radio waves that seem intent on "yabba dabba do"-ing at them and strange advertisments for bank loans and Metamucil.
Quite amusing to tell the truth.
And who knows, maybe one day soon we'll find out all about the ablutionary habits of all the Zaphod Beeblebrox's of Santraginous Five :)
