Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. To make good use of my spare CPU cycles.... I honestly believe contact with an intelligent extraterrestrial civilization is probably the best chance this miserable race has for survival.

2. I think it's a great idea, a chance for everyone to feel like they're making a genuine contribution (however small)..... the sum of the contributions is what matters, and I sincerely hope something good comes of it.

3. More public awareness. People too easily dismiss things like this as "some silly fad", and don't take it seriously. But if just the US government were to throw as much money into raw processing power for SETI, Folding@Home etc as it does into that meat-grinder that is the Iraqi war, we'd probably see results already.
