Personal background
Remember the days of the command-line, big-cache Xeons, and stats freaks? Yeah, that was me. SETI used to be my excuse to have 12 machines running at a time. Now, I can't seem to go about my daily life without 5 machines running 24/7, so I guess I should be crunching again.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I firmly believe that there is another civilization out there, somewhere. It just doesn't make sense not to be actively searching for them.

2. It's nice that so many people can come together to help make this work, but I wish there were more government funds dedicated to this and other space-related projects. NASA could do some amazing things with a budget 1/10 the size of our military.
