Profile: Greg and Linda Sands

Personal background
Linda and I are from opposite sides of the country: Linda from New Jersey, and I from California. We met over the internet in 1996 and will be married 11 years in July, 2008. We have two children (one each from previous marriages) and one dog. Linda is a nurse, while I am a Creative with Apple. Our interests are baseball (one Dodger fan, one Phillies fan...let you guess which) and all things Apple Computer.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
We are both absolutely confident that ET life exists. As it stands now, the only way we can determine that for sure is to stumble across the proof. In effect, that is what SETI does. If we, using our little iMac, can help to speed up that process a bit, it seems as worthy a project as any (we also are processing data for "Folding@home" and encourage all of you who have not yet heard of that project to look into it as well). Transmitting a beacon of some sort seems fine. The only way to make it viable would be to transmit it in all possible directions, of course. I don't think any major message, other than "Hello! We exist!" is necessary. Any details would be mostly obsolete before anyone else could receive the message and, by the time a reply could be received by us, we will hopefully have found a better method of communications.
