Personal background
Recently retired computer programmer/analyst. I've been running SETI for several years (on a PC), but lost some data a few months ago; I replaced some missing files from my husband's PC and ever since, my activity has been credited to his account. Back to running my own (I hope) on my brand new Mac.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
While not real optimistic that we'll ever really find what we're looking for, I know we won't find what we don't look for - so I'll help look.

[04/12/06] When I first rejoined in Oct/05, I couldn't get it to work (I was also very new to the Mac and may have done something wierd), so I decided to let it mellow a bit before trying again. Good move! This version went in without a hitch and started running virtually on its own. I'm still figuring what the various tabs are for (tooltips would really help), but I'm getting there. The graphics are a little odd and waste a lot of cycles, but I guess today's machines can handle that (can you tell I'm from the old school?) I'm a little surprised at how long it takes my G5 to process a batch (about 6 hrs) when it took my 300Mhz Thinkpad about 24 hrs.
