Personal background
I'm a computer engineer. I have several computers, all ( but the Commodore 64 ) run some flavor of UNIX ( mostly Sun's and Apple's ). I run SETI@home all of them that are able too. Like my former boss use to say, an unused cycle is a wasted cycle. I'm also interested in Astronomy, Mathematics, Music ( I don't really play anything however ), Electronics ( Radio, Multimedia, Home theater, etc. ) and Cars.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
In a purely mathematical sense, the odds against there not being life someplace other than earth seem pretty low. I'm not too sure what would happen if we found something, I just hope the government would not keep it a secret. I would think that the Radio waves that leave the earth form our broadcasts should be good enough and would be far more interesting than any planned beacon. From a computer engineering stand point, I think the concept of SETE@home is really cool and a great way to get extra CPU power for the poject.
