Profile: David C. Derington

Personal background
I was born at the end of the great Space Race and, according to my Mom, my first word was "Moon". Suprisingly, I ended up becoming a Chemist and now live between the world of Chemistry and Computer Science . . . probably because I have to wear glasses and being an astronomer didn't seem something for a progressive myopic.

I'm a big computer fanatic and, having 3-4 available to me at any given time, helping SETI out seems to be a natural thing.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm a big fan of SETI and any initiative that works so diligently to uncover the fundamental truths about the Universe. We all "Want to Believe" that Extraterrestrials exist and have developed the capability to move about the Cosmos pretty much at will.

So before we bomb ourselves into oblivion, before we build a supercolliding ring that creates a mini black hole that sucks in the earth, before we get smashed into extinction by a comet or otherwise large (but unexpected) heavenly body, I hope we discover some friends from space to help us dig out of our silly bickering and solopsism.

I'm hoping for the best and spend my money building PC's to help SETI (and of course play wicked-cool games) rather than deal with the lottery. I'd rather find ET ;)
