Personal background
Chris

Hi all!
Nearly forty years old, UNIX system engineer team leader, I've always got some unused gigaflop out there, so why not donate them!
Fan of italian motorbike and technology in general, I manage several non-profit LAMP servers, giving me available machines 24/24 7/7.
Regards from Paris suburbs!
Chris
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) I run SETI@home as a kind of "humanitarian non profit organization effort".

2) View on the project: as far as I know, it lacks professional support and real management since it's volonteers-based. The website is a beautiful relique of 90's :-)

3) Suggestion: 1) try to explain clearly to newbies why crunching accurate FFT can help in tracking artificial phenomenon. I'm a charted engineer so it's trivial for people like me, not for my neightbour leaving a Donkey/Mule/SomeHailEater online 24/24 7/7 :-) 2) Be more "marketing oriented" since this long-term project will die with its goal which could or not be reached in days or... never! Seti@home is basically an educationnal project, and without any performing communication, it won't grows up even if it's today tremendously powerful, since there's no mid-term results that can give people extra motivation. On the contrary, a project like exo-planets tracking draws more and more CPUS since there IS encouraging results found nearly every month. Once SETI (when...) isolates an artificial spectrum, it vanishes and subsequent efforts are useless. 3) More and more "cost-nothing goodies" to sustain efforts, for example some "chocolate rewards" when first 100K unit is reached. My two cents ;-)
