Profile: Jason Nishiyama

Personal background
I'm 33 years old and from Calgary, Alberta. I'm a teacher at a school for teens recovering from addiction.

I first became interested in SETI while engaging in my hobby of radio astronomy. Since the equipment I have access to is not designed to detect signals of artifical origin, this is my way of aiding the quest!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The odds of there being life somewhere other than here are pretty good given the size of the universe. Our only hope of detecting extra-terrestrial life is that they live near by and the signal's had the time to get here.

In respect to a beacon, we sent a message (ironically from Areceibo) back in the mid 70's and have been beaming radio and TV into space since the 30's... kinda late to worry about it now.. ;-)
