Personal background
Born on September 11, 1961, in Lubbock, Texas, I was raised in-and consider home-Fort Worth, commonly known as Cowtown. Discovering the wonders of reading at an early age, I quickly became interested in all things science and science-fictional. Asimov, Heinlein, Niven, Clarke; Einstein, Planck, Heisengerg, and, eventually, Hawking; these bright thinkers became pivotal in my perceptions of the world.
Unfortunately, alas, I dropped out of high school and became a construction and manufacturing laborer. Though still not a typical Texas Bubba, this was far from my anticipated science career-bound ideas of youth. Sigh. Fortunately, my science-fiction ideals began to become science-facts and actualities, and I bought my first home computer in 1980-an Atari 800XL with 64K RAM and a whopping 96K floppy-disk storage capacity. The next ten years were a proving ground for my abilities to mix my dreams with day-to-day living. Day-to-day, of course, had to win.
I left computing behind for several years and only within the last five have been back. It's a different experience than the Eighties provided, of course. Much more immediate and immersive.
My children almost grown, the space race dawdling, and Moore's Law rearing computer technology well: these are some of the significant events I've had the pleasure to observe and take part; however sparing that interaction may have been.
I'm proud to be a part of this continuing Search For Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence.
